Witches may be no big thing in this world of Hogwarts and Twilight. But in the 1990s, the idea of young people practicing witchcraft really took off. Most households wouldn’t have known Wicca from a Broadway musical based on the Wizard of Oz, but they soon did thanks to films like THE CRAFT. Only THE CRAFT was relatively squeaky clean, despite its R-rating. LITTLE WITCHES was released to video just seven months afterwards and it made no attempt to play down any of its exploitive elements.
In LITTLE WITCHES, a group of Catholic schoolgirls discover an ancient book, dance around naked and try to summon He Who Comes. The film stars Sheeri Rappaport (CSI, NYPD BLUE), Mimi Rose, Jennifer Rubin (BAD DREAMS,THE CRUSH), Jack Nance (ERASERHEAD), Clea DuVall (ARGO, CARNIVALE) and Zelda Rubinstein.
LITTLE WITCHES was my pick and boy, do the Film Jerks let me have it. I’m joined by host Mark Krawczyk and fellow guests Glenn Buettner, Kate Owens, Paul Salzer,Andrew Shearer and Jason Zuleger. Keep in mind there are spoilers and the discussion is racy enough to make this strictly an 18 and up deal. But if that doesn’t scare you off then…
Listen to the Film Jerks talk LITTLE WITCHES!
(You wouldn’t want to make He Who Comes angry.)
